The Barcelona Provincial Council works to bring the European project closer to citizens and other local authorities, thereby highlighting the impact that the alliance between the local community and the European Union has on day-to-day life. 

The institution offers technical and financial support to local authorities in the province to promote activities and projects on this topic in their municipalities.

The commemoration of European and international anniversaries, promoted by the United Nations, but also by the Council of Europe and the European Union, is an opportunity to remember a fact, tackle a problem, or to raise awareness, generate impact and social consciousness around a particular issue. From Europe Day or the European Cities and Regions Week, to the International Day of Cities or that of Refugees.

Through the Catalogue of Services, the Directorate of International Relations supports awareness-raising, information and training actions on European and international topics, including the organisation of awareness-raising days and campaigns.

This task of raising awareness and disseminating information on European issues includes:

• Financial, technical and material support for local authorities in the province of Barcelona to promote activities and projects on this subject in their municipalities through the Catalogue of Services.
• The commemoration of European anniversaries, such as Europe Day or the European Week of Cities and Regions, promoted by the United Nations, as well as by the Council of Europe and the European Union, to commemorate an event, address a problem or raise awareness and generate social impact around a specific issue.
• Participation in participatory processes promoted by European institutions, such as the Conference on Europa's Future (CoFoE), which help to bring the voices and opinions of citizens in our territory to the heart of European institutions.
• Participation in and promotion of the European network of elected local representatives EULC to disseminate European Union initiatives and policies that have an impact on municipalities in the province of Barcelona; to encourage citizen participation and strengthen the debate around the European project.
• Advising municipalities in the province on participation in European projects aimed at promoting democratic and civic participation on various European issues.
• Conducting regular surveys on the future of Europe to gauge the opinion of citizens in the province of Barcelona on issues relevant to the present and future of the EU.
• Institutional relations with European bodies in Barcelona, such as the European Commission Representation and the European Parliament Office, as well as with organised civil society, such as the Catalan Council of the European Movement and the Catalonia Europe Foundation, to coordinate support elements and activities in this area.
• Collaboration with the Municipal Library Network with the aim of organising activities in libraries in the province of Barcelona on European issues aimed at different age groups (talks, reading clubs, storytelling, etc.).
