Energy Communities Promotion Office (OICE)

The Energy Communities Promotion Office is a project of the Barcelona Provincial Council with the support of the Institute for the Diversification and the Saving of Energy (IDAE).

The project aims to establish a community transformation office that will offer services in the province of Barcelona, with a particular focus on energizing rural municipalities with populations of up to 5,000 inhabitants.

The office's objective is to promote and develop energy communities as a means of empowering citizens and transforming the energy model towards one in which citizens play a central role in decarbonizing the economy. To achieve this, municipalities will be provided with the necessary tools to encourage and establish innovative organizational mechanisms such as local energy communities, shared self-consumption, shared financing, or other suitable approaches based on each municipality's level of readiness and local context.

The office has a budget estimate of 1.3 million euros and has received a grant of 498,225 euros from the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

The project duration is 31 months, from June 2023 to December 2025.

Our goal is to facilitate the establishment of 50 local energy communities.
